Danpencil Empowers Youth Through Art, Culture, and Nature

Renowned artist and educator Mr Daniel Ajayi, popularly known as Danpencil, has called for greater efforts to promote African storytelling, preserve cultural heritage, and engage youth in the arts. Speaking at LUFASI Nature Park in Lekki, Lagos, he emphasized the role of art in shaping narratives and fostering tourism growth.

 

“Art is life; everything begins with strokes and lines, including our skeletal structure. My artworks use different lines to express emotions, challenges, and experiences,” he said. He urged young Nigerians to showcase Africa positively through culture, arts, and tourism.

He also maintained that healing through art and nature.

Danpencil highlighted the therapeutic power of art and nature, explaining that drawing under trees in fresh air reduces stress and improves well-being. “Spending 30 to 45 minutes surrounded by green vegetation and forests helps purify blood circulation due to the positive chemicals from trees,” he noted.

As for youth empowerment and skill development

With over a decade of teaching experience in Surulere and Lekki Lagos state ,Danpencil has trained over 100 children in summer camps, teaching drawing, painting, and crafts like Ankara hats, beadwork, and handmade accessories. Through his Dan Pencil Arts Education Initiative, he advocates for arts education as a tool for youth empowerment and entrepreneurship.

Danpencil urged the government to establish art villages and create an enabling environment for galleries and workshops to empower young artists. “We must tell our stories from our past to the future to reshape Africa’s image,” he stated.

He believes that Arts as a Bridge for Global Unity

Recognizing the power of art in fostering unity and economic growth, he encouraged Nigerians to leverage cultural heritage to strengthen international relations. He praised Dr. Desmond Majekodunmi, Chairman of LUFASI, and Evans Basil, General Manager of LUFASI Nature Park, for their dedication to preserving nature and promoting the arts.

 

With continued support, Danpencil believes that African art and culture can thrive, empowering youth and positioning Nigeria on the global creative stage.
