Janefrances Chibuzor

Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest network carrier, has launched a new passenger service to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, starting June 1, 2025. The inaugural flight was marked by a vibrant ceremony attended by ambassadors, senior government officials, and airline executives.

The new route operates four times weekly, offering more convenient travel options between Sharjah and Ethiopian Airlines’ vast global network. The airline says the service will boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between Africa and the Middle East.

Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said:

> “We are truly delighted to connect our passengers to an additional getaway in the UAE with our new flights to Sharjah. We have been connecting the UAE and Africa for nearly five decades now, and the new service will help boost investment, tourism, diplomatic and socioeconomic bonds between the two regions.”

Ethiopian Airlines has previously offered cargo services to Sharjah. With the addition of passenger flights, the airline now offers travellers a seamless journey supported by modern facilities and world-class service.

Sharjah becomes the airline’s second passenger destination in the UAE, after Dubai. Known as the cultural capital of the UAE, Sharjah is also a growing hub for industry, education, and eco-tourism, creating new opportunities across hospitality, leisure, and business sectors.
