Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest carrier, has proudly unveiled the continent’s first Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, marking a significant advancement in African aviation. The landmark occasion was celebrated at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, with an elaborate ceremony attended by high-profile dignitaries, including government officials, diplomats and representatives from Airbus and Thales.
The newly acquired aircraft was greeted with a spectacular water cannon salute upon landing from Toulouse, France, carrying a special payload of medical supplies valued at over 100,000 Euros, donated by Aviation Sans Frontières in collaboration with Airbus.
Following its arrival, Ethiopian Airlines hosted a demonstration flight for distinguished guests, showcasing the aircraft’s advanced features and offering breathtaking views of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr Mesfin Tasew, hailed the addition of the Airbus A350-1000 to the airline’s fleet as a pivotal moment in the airline’s journey
“Welcoming the Airbus A350-1000 is a milestone for Ethiopian Airlines, strengthening our position as leaders in aviation technology. This aircraft represents a commitment to passenger comfort, fuel efficiency and environmental sustainability, aligning with our Vision 2035”, he said.
The Airbus A350-1000 is equipped with Thales’s AVANT Up inflight entertainment system and the HBC+ connectivity system, offering travellers high-speed internet, spacious seating and large screens. The aircraft also features a unique landscape camera and all business-class seats have direct aisle access, prioritising convenience for passengers. Its revolutionary design includes a carbon-fibre fuselage and fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines, providing a smoother, quieter experience ideal for long-haul flights.
The introduction of the A350-1000 marks a transformative step for Ethiopian Airlines and sets a new standard for the African aviation sector. Ethiopian Airlines plans to add three more A350-1000 aircraft to its fleet in the coming months, further enhancing its modern fleet and reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
