By Janefrances Chibuzor

Ethiopian Airlines has committed to purchase 11 more Boeing 737
MAX aircraft, strengthening its fleet expansion plan and reinforcing its position as Africa’s largest carrier. The agreement for the 11 B737-8 jets was signed at the Dubai Airshow.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr Mesfin Tasew, said the new order aligns with the airline’s long-term growth strategy. He noted that the airline is pleased to continue its long-standing partnership with Boeing as it works to deliver high-performance aircraft that enhance passenger comfort.

The airline currently deploys its 737 MAX fleet on routes across Africa, the Middle East, India and Southern Europe, where reliability, fuel efficiency and fast turnarounds are crucial.

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, said the order highlights Ethiopian Airlines’ continued leadership in African aviation. He added that the agreement further strengthens Boeing’s nearly 80-year relationship with the airline and the wider region.
