For many communities located far from Ethiopia’s major cities, access to transportation, healthcare and economic opportunities may soon become easier following Ethiopian Airlines’ acquisition of a new Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft.
The aircraft, known globally for its ability to operate on short and rugged airstrips, is expected to play a vital role in connecting isolated communities with the rest of the country.
Ethiopian Airlines said the aircraft will be deployed on missions ranging from tourism charters and emergency medical evacuations to aerial surveys and airport calibration operations.
Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said the airline remains committed to ensuring that essential air services reach areas where conventional aircraft may face operational challenges.
Industry experts note that aircraft such as the Twin Otter are particularly valuable in countries with diverse terrain because they can serve destinations that are otherwise difficult to access.
The arrival of the aircraft represents more than a fleet expansion; it is expected to help bridge transportation gaps, support local tourism and improve access to critical services for residents of remote regions.
With a second aircraft expected to join the fleet, Ethiopian Airlines is positioning itself to extend the benefits of air connectivity to more communities across the country.
