The United Kingdom has raised fresh concerns over the growing exploitation of vulnerable Nigerians through suspicious foreign recruitment schemes allegedly connected to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
According to British authorities, several Nigerians have reportedly lost their lives after being lured into dangerous arrangements tied to the war, prompting renewed warnings for citizens to remain vigilant.
The British High Commission noted that the schemes are often disguised as attractive job or travel opportunities but may expose recruits to trafficking networks, irregular migration channels, and conflict-related risks.
The development also aligns with earlier advisories issued by Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which cautioned Nigerians against participating in questionable foreign military or recruitment programmes associated with the Russia-Ukraine war.
UK authorities explained that the sanctions were imposed under the Global Irregular Migration and Trafficking in Persons sanctions regime — a framework aimed at dismantling human trafficking operations and organised migration crimes across the world.
The UK maintained that the latest measures are part of broader international efforts to increase pressure on the Kremlin while supporting Ukraine amid the prolonged conflict.
Berexnews reports that concerns continue to grow globally over the recruitment of foreign nationals into conflict-linked operations under deceptive circumstances.
