The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) has intensified efforts to promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage by backing the annual Omo Atata and Ekinrin-Adde Festival in Kogi State, with plans to elevate it onto both national and international tourism platforms.
peaking during the 2026 celebration in Ekinrin-Adde, NTDA Director General, Mr. Ola Awakan, said community-based tourism remains one of the strongest tools for preserving culture, creating jobs and diversifying Nigeria’s economy beyond oil.
Addressing traditional rulers and community leaders, Awakan noted that sustainable tourism can only succeed when local communities and traditional institutions play active leadership roles.
The colourful festival featured youth carnivals, essay competitions, mountain hiking, cultural exhibitions and recognition awards celebrating individuals who have contributed to the development of Ekinrin-Adde.
As part of the visit, the NTDA delegation toured the scenic Akogba Mountain, famous for its natural spring and breathtaking landscape.
The Authority said it would promote the destination as a tourism asset while supporting the development of a signature hiking event capable of attracting visitors from across Nigeria and beyond.
The NTDA also announced plans to showcase Ekinrin-Adde’s cultural stories on its digital streaming platform, NITOUREY, while exploring the festival’s inclusion in Nigeria’s national tourism calendar in collaboration with the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN).
Community leaders, through the Ekinrin-Adde Community Development Association (EACDA), said proceeds from the annual festival have supported projects in healthcare, rural electrification, water supply and community security.
The grand finale attracted traditional rulers, government officials and members of the diaspora, highlighting the festival’s growing reputation as a platform for cultural preservation, unity and grassroots development.
The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader strategy of positioning tourism as a major contributor to economic growth, employment and sustainable national development.
