Studio 24, Kodak Moments Set Nigeria Re-Entry in Motion

Kodak has moved to re-establish its presence in Nigeria’s imaging market, launching its Kodak Moments digital printing brand in Lagos through a new partnership with Studio 24.

The launch, held at Studio 24 Allen Avenue facility, marked Kodak’s first formal return to the Nigerian market after withdrawing years ago during the global collapse of analogue photo printing.

Kodak’s Business Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Anja Weidel, said the company’s exit from several African countries followed a worldwide shift that saw printed photographs disappear almost entirely.
“When analogue paper and chemistry phased out, printing declined everywhere, and Kodak pulled out of many markets, including here,” she said. “Digital on-site printing has changed the landscape again, and Nigeria is one of the markets we are returning to deliberately.”

Weidel confirmed that an earlier attempt to re-enter Nigeria failed, but discussions revived when Studio 24 Chairman, Christopher Oputa, approached the company two years ago.
“He understands Kodak and this industry,” she said. “This partnership gives us the right base to relaunch Kodak Moments officially.”

Also speaking at the event, Kodak’s Business Manager for Middle East and Africa, Alfred Oteno, said the company has been working with Studio 24 for nearly two years to prepare for the rollout.
“There has been 18 to 24 months of groundwork — logistics, equipment importation and training, to get to this point,” he said.

Oteno identified low public awareness as the major obstacle Kodak must confront in Nigeria.
“Many young people have never seen a printed photograph,” he said. “They do not know that images on their mobile phones can be printed immediately. Awareness is the challenge.”

He said Kodak selected Studio 24 as its Nigerian distributor because of its longevity and consistent investment in the creative industry.
“They have a legacy and have survived several shifts in the market,” Oteno noted. “Their Chairman’s passion for photography and his interest in developing talent aligned with what we want to achieve.”

According to him, the partnership is aimed at rebuilding Nigeria’s photo printing culture, expanding access to modern printing systems and supporting young entrepreneurs entering the imaging business.
“Africa is a frontline market for future growth,” he said. “Anyone looking ahead must look at Africa. Nigeria’s young population is key, and digital printing gives them new avenues for income generation.”

The Lagos launch continues with demonstrations of Kodak’s updated instant-printing technology, product walk-throughs and engagements targeted at photographers, creative businesses and trainees. The initiative forms part of a wider plan by both companies to revive physical photo printing in a digital-first generation.
